Kimball Electronics Tampa (KET) is a medical electronics systems provider within the Kimball Electronics Group of companies. The Tampa 150,000 square ft. facility manufactures products from PCBAs to subassemblies and full systems, and offers quick turn prototyping. Products include microbial ID and test systems, life science and lab instruments, defibrillators and other medical equipment.
KET intends using Aegis to meet their requirement for a more robust product, materials and process data traceability system for their current circuit card assembly (CCA) manufacturing operation. The project has two objectives; firstly to meet customer deadlines for materials traceability, and secondly to comply with KEG’s overall goal of replacing the current ERP system with SAP. This will make their KET quality data collection (QDC) system obsolete.
KET selected Aegis partly because it allows them to leverage their current investment in the process development system.
The project has distinct implementation phases; initial planning for data migration and SAP integration, materials traceability on two SMT lines and associated hand lines following the SMT process, paperless work instructions at selected stations, manual quality data collection, Orbotech AOI data capture, and then final ICT test systems data collection, repair and pack out validation.
The planned solution reflects an existing Aegis implementation for similar operations within KET (Medical Electronics). KET selected Aegis partly because it allows them to leverage their current investment in the process development system. This leads on to easy expansion which incorporates a paperless shop floor, machine data collection and replacement of the QDC system with a single platform ready for SAP integration.
